I know I haven’t been posting but there is just so much going on I’m not used to being so busy!

I found some time to make some really easy minky and cotton bunny rugs/ baby blankets you can make yourself in about an hour.
I realized we desperately needed some when I packed my hospital bag and the only bunny rug I had was blue! Perfect for home but I want my little princess to have a little bit of pink in her life. I’m not really crash hot on regular store bought blankets because I find them pretty boring and It was fun going to the fabric store and picking out some nice cotton patterns.

Well fun for me anyways.

I went with minky fabric because it’s so soft and warm. I purchased about 4 meters because I wanted to make a few blankets with the cotton I just purchased what I needed. I only wanted 1 blanket out of each pattern. For a square blanket with no wastage just order the same as the width my cotton was 112cms wide I only ordered a meter so I would have a bit left over for a fabric scrap stash I’m working on. So the outcome was a blanket pretty much a meter square. I’m the laziest sewer so it’s easy to do it this way.

After purchasing your fabric and getting it home fold it in a triangle and make sure all the points match up. If you have left over like I did you will need to trim it off.

When you unfold it you should have a big square. When it comes to the minky do the same but make the triangle the same size and the cotton triangle and cut it out.

So now you have a minky square and a cotton square and you didn’t need to measure anything! I’m you’re by now you have realized minky is soft and warm and so pretty but it sucks to work with my tip is PINS and lots of them! My other tip before you get started is to watch this video it really helps!

Now unfold your squares and lay them right sides together and pin away take your time to do it right the first time

Now with your cotton side facing up because it doesn’t slip as much, start in the middle of one side and sew all the way around the blanket leaving 4-6 inch opening for turning. I used my foot as a guide for the seam allowance.

Turn your blanket the right way and push the corners out with something pointy but not sharp (you might rip the minky I used a crochet hook)

You will have your little opening that you need to pin closed and then top stitch all around making sure you close your opening. Again I used my foot as a guide.

And there you have it so easy! Not quite as cheap as department store ones I don’t think but if you can get the fabric on sale you will win and you will have some fun blankets for your baby to wear out and about seeing as in the winter all their adorable outfits are forever covered and wasted !

Oh and one other thing… After being on light duties/ modified bed rest and looking after ourselves baby and I have reached term! As you can see by the size of me at 37 weeks she is thriving and I’m ready to meet her when she is ready to be met!

I chopped my head off because there are bags involved and there is no makeup on it :-) I hope you have fun making your blankets x
